Well my week ended on the 12th basically due to the incompetence of the british weather forecasters who are overpaid for under performance! as is well known I am reluctant to cancel or not go out due to weather conditions but Sunday it was forecast wind AGAINST TIDE and they got it wrong which to me killed the week.BBC gave South east 8mph,ItV gave North West and Shipping gave a strong wind warning.IT WAS CERTAINLY FISHABLE AND AFTER THE LAST FEW WEEKS GOOD CATCHES THE ANGLERS LOST OUT ON GOOD SPORT AND I LOST NOT A DAYS WAGES BUT MY WEEKS PROFIT.IN FUTURE ALL CANCELLATIONS WILL ONLY OCCUR IN THE CAR PARK ON THE DAY FOR WEEKENDS.mid week is not a problem I can always rebook but weekends being full up I can't move cancellations to another weekend. Now to report on what Sundays party lost???

Friday six anglers two blown off from a day at Portsmouth,We fished a South Westerly 5/6 It was an ebb tide so no problem,Quarry skate six anglers 22 skate up to 13lbs and the obvious dog fish. The day as last week demonstrated the viability and benefits of being able to book/fish from our area.with few set nets in place we are really reaping the benefits [but any commercial guys reading this please note only one fish taken home the rest returned and there were several doubles]hopefully with less nets and making it more viable to fish inshore we should pick up some stingers this year .Although returned set nets must have an effect on the sting rays as this was once the mecca of sting ray fishing but as is so often the case through mismanagement/non management the stingray fishing has declined to the point no one really targets them.

Saturday seven anglers quite a lot fresher and not the quantity of fish seen the day before. We ended up with nine in total the largest 10.5lbs less dog fish but all round considering conditions we succeeded. The bonus for the day was that one angler who had undergone an operation had his trip paid for as a present from his son.He had three skate, dropped one and also caught a few dog fish.great to see people getting the best out of a trip especially in adverse conditions.

  • An article worth reading look at Defras site and read about the marine bill and how it could/will effect us all.We know politicians have a knack of getting it wrong and university degrees give them the ability to make decisions on things they are ill equipped to comment on ,with our commercial fleet heavily restricted while belgium's and dutch come here and harvest our fish something should be said. At present we as anglers are benefiting from restrictions placed on a minority. Regarding skate landings.our input has been to return most females who are here to breed and restrict ourselves to the odd males, like this is my living it is also the living of a minority of commercial fishermen These bonified fishermen should be compensated based on their last years documented landings.this would be the fairest way forward for all to benifit.BEN BRADSHAW are you the person for the job?not so far, remember this is our sea our country not the politicians or Europe's we have been sold out and people should read/comment on this marine bill .The down side is they get paid from our money for writing all this c--- but we dont get paid for the time consuming reading. But we ignore it at our peril?
