week ending 16/10/05

Well certainly been a week with a difference,on Friday 14th struggled to fill the boat ,for what ever reason everyone had something else to do that day.It didn't stop regulars John Hoy,son Simon or Bill Wilkes having a good day amongst the fish .they must have had a total of 30 whiting a piece many a good size and lots returned ,The highlight of the day was at the end ,we dropped on to some birds working and feathering with small shrimp feathers we picked up mackerel, herring and bass, most of the bass were small and returned but we kept a couple of large bags full of herring .pictured is Bill with 3 species on one drop and Simon with a red gurnard.

Tried the same on Saturday for a Chelmsford Club .Managed Plenty of Whiting but due to increasing tides and a strong South /Easterly the water was too coloured. We still went home with an abundance of whiting and many of those were a very good size for our part of the world,

SUNDAY Fished the same area, conditions were worse with a strong 5/6 south easterly .Every day same area different fishing we had 5 codling biggest caught by John Huges 3.5lbs along with an abundance of whiting, some around the 2lbs mark and dog fish .Pictured some people can't take their eyes off the rod no matter what they're doing [no names]

Don't normally fish the river but certain times it pays ,Try the feathers next set of neaps
