week ending 22/10/2006

Its . like this .Monday cancelled, wind,Wednesday, cancelled wind. Friday went river new party?Knew some of them and fishing was a struggle .there was an absence of whiting in the river but we did have a few codling, couple of dog fish and one skate about 6lbs .Saturday due to the lack of whiting in the river we roughed it and went too Clacton. We had quite a few whiting /codling and dog fish but one angler suffered, it was far from pleasant .we stayed the course and later came back in the river to evaluate for the next day.We found a few fish on the South shore so Sunday was on .Weather report was diabolical but we went and not bad plenty of whiting ,few small codling and a couple of dog fish .not good but managed to find fish in comfort and bearing in mind we had a bass of 14lbs 2oz in the river last November its worth a try. Back to the codling and the future ,The codling being caught ?some are size able ? but ask yourselves top and tail and fillet and what's left?If they aren't big enough put them BACK.We are now hearing murmurs from the powers that be and the news media of a cod ban?RUBISH.the powers have lifted a size limit on Turbot and .Brill. Skate there is no limit. We have had a size change on Bass which helps no one, ridiculous The whole frame is run by people like Ben Bradshore that have no idea what is required or when. They are damaging the whole industry both commercial and charter by their actions. My own personal opinion is that the cod size should be increased to 18 inch for anglers and the commercial size reviewed. The bass should have been left alone .Judging by the amount of schoolies the adults must be breeding. If five/six charter boats fish an area like Clacton/Jaywick prior to Christmas and take these small just size able fish of 14.5 inch say 25 per boat x 6 = 150 fish if this is done just 3 days a week that's 450 fish which is a lot from a small area and this does not included all the fish caught by private boats ,dingies and drift netters, left alone these fish will by Feb. March put on half pound or a pound, how many farmers harvest their crops before they are ripe??.Don't blame the trawlers we are all to blame What is required is some one/body with a degree of common sense and fore-thought to talk to anglers and fishermen alike and make moves to improve the industry not destroy for all just to appease. This is one reason given the weather I do make the effort to go offshore.

Recent reports read the Boat fisherman monthly November issue we've done well see the pictures on the home page Paul Coupin won a fish finder for the biggest released bass 13lbs 8 oz.Steve Easter later caught another after the contest had finished of 15lbs this is a candidate for best specimen and could reward Steve with a free rod and reel from Fladgen.Wrongly reported was the bass of 14.5 lbs caught by Les Warner this was not caught on the Jennad but on a private boat Tide chaser .I just reported it for Les I think with a 14.2oz/13lbs8oz and 15lbs returned among the many others we can afford to correct this mistake .Lets see if we can better it next year??Regarding catch and release badges from Shimano/Sea Angler A LOT OF ANGLERS ARE WAITING FOR THEIR BADGES .iF THEY CONTACT ME WITH THEIR NAMES AND ADDRESSES i HAVE FORMS TO FILL IN THAT SHOULD HAVE ACCOMPANIED THE PICTURES SHOWN IN THE MAGAZINE This weeks pictures will be on by tomorrow so check back its worth it cheers Dave Weaving.
