Heading here week ending 23/4/06

well not much to report this week we haven't been out much and from the reports the inshore cod have all but disappeared, some dingy angler friends have reported some fish well east of Clacton pier but not the numbers or quality of previous weeks .Inshore marks producing a few skate and dog fish but the majority are going up the road in commercial fish boxes. So really weather permitting you are going to have to start traveling

Saturday 22/4/06 firstly congratulations to Mark on the birth of his son (hope he's purchased a rod to follow in dads footsteps).Well lets hope he can get the bass in the boat. The day started off slow tried a known mark in the Swin, deep water, nothing ,Moved North and found a rough bit of ground ,located a couple of doggies ect nothing exciting then Mark connected with a nice bass well all I can say is hard luck ,it was a good 8lbs and hooked very lightly in the side of the mouth ,once it saw the boat one shake of the head and it was gone,I suspect we lost another on the other side of the boat minutes after it certainly was a really good fish almost certainly a bass but still free and roaming the ocean .continued with doggies but with no tide run we struggled ,stayed for an extra hour to see what we could muster on the flood ,moved shallower into about 35ft and luckily picked up a few skate.

Sunday I had a cancellation but although I could have filled it decided to follow my other pursuit diving ,don't get week ends off so this was a rarity ,tried a few wrecks but the viz not quite there yet ,(nothing like Aus/Bali) give it another couple of weeks and that should drop clear ,A curse for the commercial boys but a bonus for us,once that clears we should start seeing a few mackerel and some more predatory fish .Bigger tides this week out Thursday/Friday so keep tuned Cheers Dave.
