weekending 23/9/2007 |
Not much to write about this week, only one mid week trip Thursday and afraid the new party wouldn't be deterred.with a strong South West and very small tide made fishing hard. managed to start off with a couple of bass in the river, moved to the Wallet but too much weed, tried inshore jaywick but wind and tide soon put paid to that so early day although a very small tide there was too much colour to play with the bass and herring in the river. Saturday Party Short on numbers managed to scratch up another couple and went off to the Black deeps area Weather was perfect but tides a bit small fishing slow ,few skate, dog fish ,mackerel and couple of small bass but generally Quite ,well compared to previous weeks but it seemed pretty general. Un till the water temperature drops I don't think we will see whiting or codling in any numbers The mackerel are still here in numbers like we haven't seen for years ,mainly round the Sunk area. Sunday started great got offshore are started straight away with some reasonable sized bass plus the odd mackerel, spent a lot of time drifting, anchored for skate ect but mainly dog fish, not one of our calmer days ?so we went and feathered again bit hard to locate the mackerel today but eventually found them in the deep water,as many as you wanted ,strings of them, also found a few more bass but they were very skittish. Just a word on diesel I am going to try to keep my prices the same for 2008 but obviously will be governed by prices .THIS WILL EFFECT ALL BOATS COMERCIAL CHARTER AND PRIVATE. I have written to the magazines and the bodies concerned and every one even the anglers should lobby their MP'S.At present I pay 37.75p per litre for fuel ,this fluctuates but never goes down,I can claim back the duty 7.69p per litre which normally pays for my insurance/liferaft.EUROPE AND OUR WONDERFULL GOVERMENT/POLITICIANS have decreed that from Oct 2008 we will have to pay 56p per litre purchases tax ,this does not cover any rises due to Americas reserves or fuel supply, the money markets manipulate this at will. This means on a busy week in the peak season a refill could cost me in the region of £800/£900 .We have been told we can reclaim this but how often and when we still don't know .Obviously this will cause a cash flow crisis and effect us all,This really highlights also the need for persons booking the boats to ensure they honour their commitment no boats can afford to go out empty. What I have proposed is that we be issued with a credit card or pin number to give us exemption at source,at the moment only house boats will get this for heating. This WILL EFFECT COMERCIAL,PLEASURE,CHARTER,BOAT BUILDERS,TACKLE SHOPS BAIT SUPPLIERS EVERYONE even our magazines who rely on advertising, the implications are staggering !!!!!!WHY???? EUROPE AND OUR GOVERMENTS PASSED AND PRESENT Even if we get some sort of exemption it will obviously devalue our boats and make it harder /unviable to update them.If you are just a curious reader who wants to check this out go to the site www.rya.com put in motor boats then red diesel. Its not easy being a charter skipper we have to find the fish, cope with the weather, the pirates ,the mca, proposed rod licensing now this. An industry in Crisis?????.
