week ending 23/3/2007 |
Nothing during the week,I think a lot were put off by the weather. This weekends weather wasn't much better but we made the most of it and considering all the factors we found fish and did well .Remember most other boats/ports end up canceling when its like this. Saturday Steve flint and party from Northampton way .after the long drive down they made the most of the new arrangements and had breakfast at the Water Front Cafe remember 01206 38 6061, give them notice and they will open 6.30 for breakfast, it must be good no one brought it up ?.Any way North/North easterly it was freezing and with a strong easterly swell the small bit of the ebb was hard work but the flood proved the journey to be worth while.8 anglers with a total take home catch of around 35 codling.we went east after fishing one mark for 4hrs I took the gamble and pushed up shallow, in the shorter time we were there it proved a good move. In 15ft of water there were plenty more keepers, the cod close inshore on this mark tend to fill up with brown shrimp. One thing very noticeable about a lot of the smaller cod returned is the obvious fact they are stuffed full of hard back crabs, where they haven't had time to digest their stomachs are square, you can feel the crabs when handling the fish .Anyway plenty to take home but no Skate. Sunday Out of the six that booked only three turned up so for sum an expensive day?with some of the boats canceling and the previous day being so cold and miserable we didn't know what to expect weather wise?also there was nearly a metre drop in the tide since Friday,We went back to the same mark and 3 anglers had good day certainly the weather was an unexpected bonus still slight east in it but certainly fish- able and fish.Chris Miller had the best day with 6 cod that he kept and five skate ,the two biggest skate were 10lbs and 11lbs respectively .he only took one small male with the rest being returned best bait again proved to be squid. When we dropped anchor due to the lack of ebb tide I purposely dropped deeper to find skate, we had three there on the ebb then moved onto the previous days mark where we had another two.the difference in species, size and numbers on the same mark on consecutive days is amazing still that's the lure of fishing and why we do it, This week weather looks great so far Two enquiries for Tuesday but sorry need more to make it viable so ring asap if you are free to make up numbers ? or if you can make another date rember I need a minimum of 5 .cheers dave weaving sorry about the pictures females x2 females changed the auto set up on camera ???? good job it wasnt a 15lb bass but sorry good fish bad photographer.
