week ending 26/11/2006

Not much to report again this week due to the atrocious weather we have had. When you flip back through our catches over the year Its certainly not a patch on earlier catches but then given the weather conditions we have still managed to get out and catch fish so we and our geographical position does benefit us all .I cant help[ feeling sorry for many of the other charter skippers round the country with costs, legislation, weather and the lack of ability by the MCA to protect law abiding skippers from cowboy operaters.I know many of them are feeling the strain of cancellations due to the weather.and being a full time charter skipper is not as financially rewarding as it might appear It is very competitive and most skippers rewards are like yours pursuing something they enjoy. We managed two trips this week wednesday and Sunday ,Wednesday saw four boats fishing the Black water on a police contest There were the odd cod and mainly whiting.Top catch on my boat went to Charlie Peck with something like 675 points .When you see the difference between the top score and the lowest score It puts the skill of the angler into perspective I suppose its like match anglers its certainly not luck and watching some of these anglers I don't think I could fish the same with the degree of concentration and diligence required.Thats why I suppose I prefer the summer fishing and the targeting of specimen fish,If the weather would let us I suppose we still could, and given a calm day I'm still up for it.Sunday saw five regulars fishing the river .Forcast 12mph ???reality 34mph South West Thames giving strong wind warning Fish, plenty of whiting and some clonkers among them 5 dabs and a few codling but only up to about 3lbs this week the winds still blowing ,looking at getting out wednesday and Thursday forecasts better but we've all been suckered by that one countless times. We've got about four weeks left I will keep you updated on catches up till the new year then I come out of the water for holiday and maintenance ready for the new year and the challenge of trying to better some of this years catches look at our history and profile !It won't be easy but that's why we do it ,the challenge cheers dave Weaving
