Weekending 8/7/2007

Don't have to elaborate on the weather, last week cancelled three trips this week two .managed to get out on Wednesday with Dennis Sweeny, his brother ,son and Friend and once again it wasn't calm but we found a few fish, nothing special but wetted the appetites, and we topped off the day with a drift for a few mackerel and bass although nothing big it was different but still bloody rough .Also this week we lost the night trip that we do once a year, again the forecasters, predicted dropping winds ?maybe they eventually did but not before the skipper ,party got fed up with looking at the window and the clock.

Saturday what a relief we got out and yes we got fish If I get nothing else this week this trip and the results should cover it .Andy Gossage, dad Tony and the rest of the boys from Norfolk/Suffolk borders .This is what we tagged Common female 11lbs :Starry 9lbs:Starry 13lbs:Common 15lbs:Common 8lbs female:Female starry 8lbs:Female starry 8.5lbs:Common female 10.5lbs:Common female 11lbs:Common female 8lbs:Starry 8.5lbs :Common 8lbs:Common female 11.5lbs:Common female 14.5lbs :Starry female 15lbs :Starry 14.5lbs and Mickey Neal caught his first bass .Impressed ?WE WERE.This is only what we tagged in total over 50 hounds were boated and ALL RELEASED. Its a bit sad when you hear another skipper saying their party has just dispatched a 12lbs hound. I'm glad they don't fish with me Its a bit sad when a prime females full of live pups are dispatched. If people whish they can take the odd male but these fish come here to drop their young which they only do by-annually.They are not a fast growing fish and I know many skippers and certainly the magazines would not condone this action,Ironically these are the very type of people who would moan if they had a bad day.they call it short term gain long term loss.kill the mother and all the young then moan about commercial activity.SAD !!!!!!!!!.

Sunday Braintree Sea angling Club Tope Trip? must admit I was apprehensive and they were adamant it was a tope trip.after yesterdays blinder I didn't want disappointed anglers but they are anglers and I gave them the option and tope trip it was.?The first fish to come over the gunnels was a bass of 11.5lbs.followed by a skate of 11.5lbs.the guy with the bass followed this with another bass of 7lbs.The big bass was released in our traditional method small hook top lip and held in the tide till it had recovered .the biggest tope was 29lbs followed by one of 15lbs.The weather .YOU COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR BETTER .In all out of the 7 anglers aboard from an established club three personnel bests were recorded . Biggest tope for Simon King.First tope for Chris Leonard and biggest bass. Not bad end to our week !!!!!

one quickie another boat from our port Tidechaser a starfish 28 privately owned .A pair of swallows built a nest above the door to the wheelhouse and successfully raised 5 chicks the boat is used weekly so the parents have waited for the boat to return to port and all young have now survived and left the nest I have taken some good shots for the mags and the papers an unusual twist to a fishing boat /trip can't get pics on site though we had to many fish! cheers dave
